The SOL Patrol is a Ford diesel van that runs on vegetable fuel and is outfitted with a solar electric system. The SOL Patrol’s main tank is full of biodiesel, and can also run on used restaurant grease via an additional heated fuel tank designed and installed by GreaseCar.com. The solar electric system includes two Evergreen Solar photovoltaic panels, plus batteries, inverter and a charge controller. This enables us to demonstrate the components of a solar electric system, run appliances used to prepare farm-fresh cuisine that we sell at festivals, and power tools used to implement garden beds and greenhouses at schools.
